What To Expect in Therapy

Collaboration:

Engaging in therapy is an opportunity to explore yourself, challenge current thoughts/beliefs and grow as an individual. You and your therapist will develop an approach that works for you, but it is an interactive sport! You are the most important part of the process.

Commitment:

The main purpose of therapy is to help you work through things in your life- your therapist is committed to helping you through that process! Sometimes this means that we adjust the approach to meet your needs or need to refer to someone else for more advanced treatment, ie substance use intensive program. Sometimes this means just holding space for you while you process. We're here for it all

Confidentiality:

We take care to be HIPPA compliant and maintain your privacy. Things discussed in session stay between you and your therapist unless abuse or threat to personal safety is disclosed. As a small community, it is possible that you might see your therapist in public. They will not approach or speak to you out of respect for you and to maintain confidentiality.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma.

Play Therapy

Play therapy is evidence-based and developmentally appropriate for children ages three through twelve, due to their limited capacity to verbally process their emotions. “Toys are children’s words and play is their language.” (Landreth)
